Lean and Productivity – An Introduction to Lean

Article by Jonathan Velasco

PEO Grand River Chapter, in cooperation with Lean Transformation coach Kenneth Leung, organized a successful info talk on the topic of lean and productivity. Topics covered were types of wastes, principles of lean thinking, and lean tools such as 5S workplace organization. The event was held in Conestoga College of Engineering on Feb 24, 2018 and was attended by fifty members of the chapter, and some engineering students.

Ken offered this informative session for free. Ken is a passionate Lean Master Black Belt and Professional Engineer with track record of successful enterprise Lean Transformation through management system and improvement initiatives delivery. He has experience in the public and private sector, manufacturing and service industries, most recently with the City of Mississauga, University Health Network (UHN) and the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) Consortium. He has served as a process improvement coach, Lean/management systems facilitator, and performance measurement analyst. Ken also spoke at AME Lean conference 2014 (Mississauga) and assumed the position of Value Stream manage for CME National Lean Conference 2012.

Because lean and productivity is a very useful knowledge in many business processes, several participants had expressed interest to proceed with the next step to attend a full-day six sigma white belt session. It will be offered at a 70% discount as compared to other providers. The education committee is planning to hold it in May 2018.
