Deserving Students Receive Engineering Scholarships

Deserving Students Receive Engineering Scholarship

2016 Scholarship Winners

Christmas Break 2016 was exciting for three of the many applicants for the PEO Grand River Chapter annual scholarship grants.  When Jonathan Sun (University of Waterloo), Allison Chow (University of Waterloo) and Loreta Chan (University of Guelph) came back to school after the holidays, they discovered they were the winners of the 2016 Engineering Scholarships offered by PEO Grand River Chapter, and through corporate sponsorship from Hitachi Truck Manufacturing, and JMP Engineering.

Jonathan Sun received the $1000 PEO Scholarship; Allison Chow received the $1000 JMP Engineering Grant, while Loreta Chan received the $1500 Hitachi Truck Manufacturing Grant, which is offered exclusively to University of Guelph students.  Both JMP Engineering and Hitachi Truck Manufacturing have been generous sponsors for many years.

The judges from the PEO Grand River Chapter board all admitted that this year’s applicants were very competitive and entries were very difficult to score.  These scholarships are offered to first year students enrolled at the University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo or Conestoga College, and who are enrolled in an accredited engineering program.   All applicants submitted an essay describing their extra-curricular activities, their community involvement, and most importantly, reasons why they want to become a Professional Engineer.  PEO Grand River Chapter will continue to recognize exemplary students who will one day become leaders in the engineering profession. The scholarship committee will continue to search for corporate sponsors in order to recognize as many deserving engineering students as possible.
