The PEO Grand River Chapter, in cooperation with volunteers from the Civil, Environmental and Geological Engineering Society (CEGES) of the University of Waterloo hosted the screening of an engineering movie called Dream Big on April 15, 2017 at the Landmark Cinemas, Kitchener.

From the Great Wall of China and the world’s tallest buildings, to underwater robots, solar cars and smart, sustainable cities, Dream Big celebrates the human ingenuity behind engineering marvels big and small, and reveals the heart that drives engineers to create better lives for people around the world. This film was produced by MacGillivray Freeman in partnership with ASCE and presented by Bechtel Corporation.

The screening was attended by chapter members and their K-12 children.  A special thank you to parents for bringing their children to this event. Volunteers engaged the children with the button maker, and of course, encouraged them to consider a career in engineering.

The film was brilliantly made, with lots of attention to details in its production.  The Imax 3D and the digital sound made it so entertaining, engaging and inspiring, not just to the children, but even to us parents. There are heart-warming and tear jerking portions of the movie that will make you feel proud to be an engineer.

This event is by far the best and most vivid way to promote engineering to the youth.  We highly encourage other engineering groups to do the same.
