Lean White Belt Certification - Winter 2019

PEO Grand River Chapter proudly presents: Lean White Belt Certification Training

WHO: All PEO Grand River Chapter P.Engs, EITs and OACETT members interested in an introduction to the philosophy, terminology, and core tools of LEAN Thinking.  Other PEO Chapter members welcome.

WHAT: Lean White Belt Certification for $160 (includes 60% discounteed fee, refreshments and lunch; breakfast not included)

WHERE:  MSW Plastics 140 Minto Road, Palmerston, ON N0G 2P0

WHEN: Saturday February 2, 2019, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (Registration 8:00 - 8:30 am)

This Lean White Belt Certification training is a one-day interactive, hands-on, simplicity driven workshop that makes lean thinking and lean manufacturing principles easy to understand through a "learning by doing" simulation.

At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the seven wastes
  • Determine 'value added' and 'non value added'
  • Describe the impact of facilty layout and set-up time on production
  • Calculate takt time and describe a "pull" type control system

Join the Grand River Chapter PEO for an evening of engaging ideas and networking with fellow engineers, EITs and students.  This year's Women in Engineering event features a presentation by Diane Freeman, a University of Waterloo graduate, licensed professional engineer, and project manager with the Waterloo firm Masri O Architects Inc.

Diane believes in volunteering adn the heart of engineering -- service.  Diane served as the 2010-2011 President of Professional Engineers of Ontario.  She was the founding president of teh Butterfly Learning Centre, a not-for-profit child-care facility located in north Waterloo.  She was first elected to Waterloo City Council in 2006.  She has served continuously since that time having been re-elected in 2010 and 2014.  Diane is a Fellow of Engineers Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineers.  Diane is an avid cyclist and received a Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with the Share-the Road cycling Coalition.

The event starts at 7 pm. A presentation will be held at 7:15 pm followed by Q & A, mingling and refreshments.

RWDI Wind Tunnel Tour

Join us for an in-depth tour of RWDI’s Wind Tunnel facility and Model shop. This event will further knowledge of climate modeling, building sciences and wind engineering. RWDI Engineers will share their expertise and provide insight on innovations in the civil engineering industry. This event is meant for EIT’s looking to learn more about an exciting and evolving engineering field. The tour will last roughly 2 hours and will also provide an opportunity to network with other EITs.

This event will be kindly led by RWDI Engineers acting as volunteers and will not be of any cost. Availabiltiy is first come first serve and is capped at 20 people.

Please review the safety requirements prior to attending this event, and please refrain from taking photos while on the premises.

Safety Info:

Safety glasses are required and will be handed out by RWDI staff prior to the tour. Closed toed shoes are mandatory.  Yellow lined walkways mark the tour route and guests must stay within these lines. Stiletto heels are not allowed in areas with open grating. Guests are not allowed to touch on-display models, as they are delicate.
